Sprints on the third day

500m Junior Women: Colombia confirms its role as favorite

The Colombian Kerstinck Sarmiento managed an excellent start and therefore she got directly to the front of the race. She let the others no chance. Her compatriot Geiny Pajaro (COL) got second and therefore wins the silver medal. The battle for bronze took place between Franchesca Bell (USA) and Giorgia Bormida (ITA). The American wins this battle and secures the bronze medal for her country.

500m Junior Men: Jaime Uribe, favorite and winner

As expected the favorite of the race Jaime Uribe (COL) takes directly the lead, however, benefited from a small collision of his competitors at the start. Tanner Worley (USA) wins the silver medal in front of Lin Ping Hung (TPE).

1000m Senior Women: Francesca Lollobrigida unbeatable

After a bad start for her circumstances in the championship, Francesca Lollobrigida (ITA) scored her first gold medal on the 1000m. The Italian has always been positioned at the second position in the pack, behind Colombia. In the last lap, she attracts a long sprint and wins the race in front Mareike Thum (GER) and Fabriana Aria (COL).

1000m Senior Men: Peter Michael shows the ropes to Colombia

The Colombians lead most of the race. When Jimenez opened the inside for Munoz, Peter Michael (NZL) could win the position between the two, to be in a good position for the final sprint. On the final straight Michael passed Andres Munoz (COL) on the inside and wins the gold medal. Andres Jimenez (COL) wins Bronze. Peter Michael confirmed once again that he is one of the best skaters over the 1000m.

The relays finish the track competitions

3000m Junior Women: Taïwan cries, France laughs

Colombia asserts itself in the junior ladies while beating the team from Korea and Taiwan. Taiwan gets disqualified after the race due to a technical error. This benefits the French team that therefore wins the bronze medal.

3000m Junior Men: France wins gold

In the first part of the race Italy has a good chance at the gold medal. However Giuseppe Bramante and his teammates commit a few mistakes in the final laps. In the final laps the French get the second position in the pack, and finally even the lead. 2nd place goes to Colombia, place 3 to Italy.

3000m Senior Women: Italy has a good day

Italy skated a very impressive last lap. The Squadra Azzurra improved in one lap from No. 4 to No. 1 and passed therefore Colombia, Korea and Taiwan. In the end, the photo finish had to determine the winner. Francesca Lollobrigida and her two teammates were delirious with joy. Italy won his second gold medal of the day.

3000m Senior Men: Colombia makes the difference

The level of relay competitions is very high at the senior men with the big nations like Italy, South Korea, Colombia, France, Argentina, Taiwan and New Zealand. The Italians, Colombians and French assume successively the lead of the race. Also Argentina is going good. On the finish line Colombia wins in front of France and Argentina.

Tomorrow…

Tomorrow it goes on directly with the road competitions – without rest day. The rest day will only take place before the marathon next Saturday. Six days of competition in a row can be very stressful and tiring for the participants.
