The Italian team is ready for the European Speed Skating Championships in Geisingen

The Italians have already taken their marks on the indoor track of Geisingen, Germany. The opening ceremony will take place on Saturday, July 26th at 17:00 and the races will start on Monday, July 28th.

« Geisingen is a very fast track where you can exceed 50 kph at top speed. We’re not used to it. In Italy we don’t have such bank tracks. Besides, we’ll have to deal with countries such as Germany, France, Nederland and Spain, who have improved a lot over the last years.
We’re working hard to keep a homogeneous group. Some skaters have become cornerstones in this national selection, like Gina Lollobrigida, Zanetti and Francolini. In the Women’s, we are in a transition period, especially in the Senior category with a generation change. We’ll have to wait a few years for results. On the other hand, the Senior and Junior Men’s level has improved a lot, with more athletes and higher speeds.
We have great hopes as for the future Junior B teams, both in the Men’s and Women’s categories. In a few years, they will enable Italy to be part of the most performant nations in the World. »
