Men’s 2016 Euro: The impressive title list of Portugal

Portugal has a very enviable title list in rink hockey with 101 victories. Amongst the list, there are 20 European titles and 15 world titles…

Team Portugal also won:

  • 18 Nations’ Cups
  • 14 Latin Cups
  • 18 European Championships
  • 4 Junior World Titles
  • 13 European Titles in youth categories.

The first Portuguese title was won in 1947 in the men’s category during the world championships of Lisboa. Their latest title was won in 2003 in Oliveira de Azeméis under the leadership of coach Vítor Hugo. That is why this location is considered like a talisman for Portugal. Their opponents have been warned.

The latest European title won by Portugal was in Paços de Ferreira (1998).

As for the Nations’ Cup, Portugal won the trophy 18 times, the first time in 1948 and the most recent one in 2015.

This year’s Latin Cup (2016) was won by the national selection, crowned for the 14th time out of 28 editions.

The Juniors won 21 championships, including three World Cups (last time in 2015) and 18 European trophies (last time in 2014).

As for the youth categories, their title list is pretty remarkable too with 13 titles. The first one was won in 1981 and the last one in 2015.
