Interview
Hola Enrique! Can you introduce yourself?
I am Enrique Rubio, I am 19 and I am from Albacete (Spain) but i am currently living in Valencia where I am studying a physics degree. I consider myself as a normal person, calm and friendly. I love sports and I take my skates wherever I go.
How did you start skating?
I started skating when I was a child. I do not remember how old I was, but I actually started in 2011 when, in my city, was created the first skating club. Then I began to play inline hockey and to do speed skating. It was not until 2013 when I discovered the freestyle skating due to a competition that was held in Albacete (my city). At first, I competed also in battle, even once I competed in classic. But after a while I discarded battle and classic because of the time and I specialized more in speed slalom, jumps and slides. But especially on slides which is the modality where I have reached more achievements.
Why did you choose slalom skating?
Sincerely I do not know why but i love it. I think that it is a very complete sport and it has a lot of modalities to choose. Although i only train slides right now i like to do freeskate, hockey or speed skating when i can. Actually i do not think i could live without my skates.
Did you try other practices?
Yes, since i was young i am always practicing some sports. I have swum, i have played tennis and done taekwondo and i would like to prove more sports.
What are your goals for the 2017 World Roller Games?
I am wishing to go to the WRG and to do my best there. I know that the asian level in slides is very high but i am training a lot. My goals for the WRG are to make my slides perfect because the position i could reach not depends only on me. So if my performance on slides is as i
have trained it i will be happy.
How did you get in touch with Powerslide ?
Two years ago, in a national competition, the Spanish distributor from Powerslide came to talk with Pablo Soler and me because he was looking for sliders to collaborate with powerslide. Since then, I have been using powerslide skates and I am delighted with the treatment they give me, as well as the relationship we have.
What kind of skates do you use?
Since the moment I started skating with Powerslide I’ve used various skates. I used KAZE skates with the Trinity frame system, which, in my opinion, it’s really interesting. I’ve also used SuperCruiser, but now I roll with TAU skates both to compete and diarial use with which I’m very happy.
What a your project for the future?
Now i am only focus on this season and on the WRG. For the next season i want to improve my slides and i would like to participate in the Shanghai slalom open (SSO).
