300m time trial

Simon Albrecht (Allemagne)

On the morning of the race day it was very hot and humid on the track in Nanjing (China). The day began with the 300m heats to determine the finalists of the evening.

Junior Women: comfortable lead for the Colombians

The sprint specialists from Colombia made the double with two times below 27 seconds: Geiny Pajaro won gold in front of her compatriot Kerstinck Sarmiento. The South Americans outclassed the skaters from Taiwan Yen Ting Yu and Peng Chih Youe by almost half a second.

Junior Men: another victory for Colombia

Jaime Uribe (COL) won gold in front of the Korean Giwon Lee and in front of his compatriot Steven Villegas, who missed the silver medal by two thousandths.

Senior Women: a close decision

Maria Jose Moya Sepulveda (CHL) once again confirmed her world class with a win over 300m with a time of 26,135s. This is the fourth world title in four championships for the Chilean. She won against the Korean Yi Seul An, who scored a time of 26,188s. The Colombian Jercy Puello got third with a time of 26,198s. Less than six hundredths separated the medal positions in the women’s – a millimeter decision.

Senior Men: one-tenth separates Gold and Silver

After having the fastest time in the 300m time trial heat, Simon Albrecht (GER) confirmed his favorite role: he could improve his time in the final once again (23,869s). Simon won in front of Emmanuelle Silva Santibanez (CHL), who also went under 24 seconds. Therefore, Chile could achieve its second medal in the sprint distances. Andres Jimenez of Colombia completed the podium with a time of 24,101s.

Long distance races

10k points/ elimination Junior Women

Juniors hommesThe final of the Junior Women in the early evening was a very close decision, as between gold and silver was only one point difference. Daniela Mendoza from Colombia (9 points) won with only one point in front of Sui Jin Lee (8 points, KOR) and Juiyan Fang (8 points, CHN). Martina Zanini from Italy (6 points) missed the podium just. The points of the hard race were distributed to all 10 finalists.

10k points/ elimination Junior Men: Colombia untouchable

The race of the Junior Men was clearer: the Colombian Saul Herreño (19 points) got all the essential points of the race. However, the fight for the silver medal was on between the Italian Daniele Di Stefano (13 points) and Martin Ferrié (12 points, FRA).
Maybe also the crashes in the race have influenced the dynamics of the race, for example the teammate of Martin Ferrié Flavien Foucher crashed.

15k elimination Senior Women: Double victory for Colombia

The Colombian double once again dominated the first day of the competition: Luz Karime Garzon won in front of her compatriot Fabriana Arias. Mayra Yaquel Arias (ARG) was able to win the bronze medal. The cheers of the home crowd could unfortunately not help Guo Dan to win a medal. The Chinese finished fourth in front of the experienced Francesca Lollobrigida.

15k elimination Senior Men: Peter Michael – again and again!

No doubt – the New Zealand devil knows how it goes. Apart from 2015 in Kaohsiung, where Peter Michael has not participated in the world championships due to ice-skating – he won every 15k elimination since 2011. This time he won in a tight sprint finish in front of Alex Cujavante from Colombia and in front of the Frenchman Ewen Fernandez. Therefore Ewen won the second medal for France. The race was once again influenced by a few crashes, for example, Ewen lost his compatriot Timothy Loubineaud, who crashed together with the Swiss Livio Wenger.
