Pronostics
Two strong nations: Colombia and South Korea
This year, as always the ladies long distance standard of racing is very high. The list of the competitors is strong, and lead by two equally strong teams of Colombia and Korea. Colombia will be lead, by the duo of Jhoana Viveros and Fabiana Arias, both won titles last year, and Korea by Garam Yu, and the best ladies long distance skater of her generation Hyo Sook Woo. These four skates each took home a world title last year.
Lonely skaters might surprise strong teams
In long distance racing, have a strong team mate is a big help, but it doesn’t make it impossible, there is a long list of skaters who’ll be lining up against these teams essentially alone: Sandrine Tas (BEL), Francesca Lollobrigida (ITA), Ho-Chen Yang, and the local favorite Dan Guo (CHN). All of these skaters have won world titles in recent years.
Some skaters have specialities
Some skaters are better at the points and points/elimination events, than the points race, and vice versa. Skaters that are stronger in the points events tend to be able to have multiple maximum efforts in them, while elimination skaters often tend to be better at positioning themselves in the pack and are slightly faster. With such strong competition it is difficult to say who will end up with medals, but here goes:
Elimination track
- Fabiana Arias (COL)
- Francesca Lollobrigida (ITA)
- Sandrine Tas (BEL) (wild card: Hyo Sook Woo KOR)
Points/Elimination track
