2016 Women’s World Championships of Rink Hockey : Second Day

Summary of the Games

Group A: Argentina 14 – 0 Egypt

Team Argentina, the current world champion, didn’t have any problems to get rid of Egypt. All the Argentinean players scored at least once during the game: Juliette Fernandez and Lorena Rodriguez both scored three times, Valentina Rodriguez and Daiana Silva scored twice, Luciana Agudo, Adriana Gutiérrez, Salomé Rodriguez and Veronica Dieguez once each.

Argentine Egypte

Group A: Italy 5 – 1 Brazil

Italy is one of the teams that has the most improved this year. The Squadra Azzurra imposed themselves 5 to 1 against Brazil. Maria Teresa and Elena Tamiozzo Mele scored twice each, and Giulia Galeass closed the Italian score. On the Brazilian side, Adriana Costa saved face. Brazilian Mariela Pestana had to be evacuated after a shin injury. Italy won 6 points in Group A and is probably heading towards the quarter finals. Next game against Colombia, while Brazil will meet Egypt.

Group A: Colombia 16 – 0 Egypt

Colombie EgypteAfter their loss to Argentina, Colombia opened the scores against Egypt, and won with the irrevocable score of 16-0. Catalina Martinez scored five goals, Camila Morales four, Sara Bedoya three, Paola Gutierrez, Andrea Rodriguez and Diana Rivas two each.

Let’s note, once again, the fair play of the Egyptian players. The team even managed to win the hearts of the Chilean crowd. As for Colombia, they can always count on their supporters in the stands, who never lack motivation for cheering. Next games: Egypt will meet Brazil and Colombia, Italy.

Group B: France 8 – 0 South Africa

After their world title in 2012 in Recife, Brazil, and their second place in 2014 in Tourcoing, France, the French are part of the key-teams of the competition, despite renewed and younger troops.

Even if they opened the score, the French had quite a hard time during the first period against South Africa, who proved to be threatening when counter-attacking, and messed with French goal keeper Flora Michoud Godard twice. The French coach had to call his players to order. The French team came back from the break with extra motivation and took hold of the game. In the end, Vanessa Daribo and Emilie Laboyrie-Couderc both scored three times, and Frédérique Denest twice.

The next games for Team France won’t be a walk in the park, first meeting Spain, who just won against Portugal… and Portugal on the game after.

Group B: Portugal 0 – 4 Spain

Portugal EspagneIt was the great derby of the day! The two nations are the favorites of Group B and their meeting gave useful indications as for the rest of the competition. What should be remembered of that game: Spain was quick, structured and powerful, with a solid defense. Portugal has talented individualities but lacked of the collective coherence that would make the difference against a team such as Spain. The final score is clear: 4-0 for Spain.

Natasha Lee scored during the first half, Marta González, Laura and María Díez Puigdueta widened the gap in second period. Ana Ferreira was wounded at the head and was sent to the hospital of Iquique. Renata Balona also needed medical assistance.

Group C: Germany 9 – 0 India

Germany, 4th at the last Women’s World Championships in 2014, won against India without surprise, in group C, on a score of 9 to 0. Neubert and Anna Katharina Hartje both scored two goals. Kim Alina Henckels, Maren Wichardt, Franziska Neubert, Laura La Rocca and Simone Firll scored one goal. India benefited from the support of locals, who had come to cheer their team. Next games: Germany-USA and India-Chile.
