With great disappointment, we have learned the cancellation of the 2016 Hochwald Mittelrhein Marathon. The organization explains in a press release that despite the success of the 2015 edition, they made the choice not to renew the race in 2016.
The race will be missed by the skaters: Its course is fast and rolling, in a pleasant landscape along the banks of the Rhein, on a large national road. It is the only city-to-city course in Germany.
Press release summary
The May 2015 race benefited from nice weather and good organization, and received lots of positive feedbacks from the skaters. The organizing team, gathered around Robert Kretzer, and the many club volunteers posted along the course, as well as the cities were heartily thanked.
But the organizing commission is worried by the continued decrease in number of participants. It may just be a national tendency, but you cannot close the roads with only 300 real marathon skaters. Even if the organization covered its costs in 2015, they are not sure to be able to incur new expenses. The limits have been reached.
It was decided to cancell the competition. The organization thanks the participants of the previous editions.
